In recent years progress in 2D protein electrophoresis tools has resulted in it’s higher reproducibility and analytical sensitivity. Among the most profound improvements are precise equipment for immobilized and free pH gradient gels (1D:IEF) differential fluorescent protein labeling, software for advance 2D gel picture analysis. The use of Mass Spectrometry for amino acids sequence based identification of individual proteins (spots) purified and concentrated by 2D gels opens totally new capabilities for protein biochemistry also. That is reflected by the development of the whole range of a 2D electrophoresis variants used for e.g. protein-protein (2D BN) and protein-nucleic acids (2D EMSA) complexes analysis.
