Main Activity
Plant Sciences Core Facility is an open CEITEC laboratory providing access to the research infrastructure for basic plant growth, environmental simulation and phenotyping analyses. The core facility operates 15 fully controlled walk-in growth chambers (phytotrons) and 10 greenhouses to provide defined environment for controlled plant growing. It serves as a focal point for broad-based cutting-edge biological research.
Unique Features
The Core Facility provides academic community with access to advanced environmental simulation technologies and highly trained staff. Our facility provides all services necessary for conducting many types of controlled environment experiments, starting from the simplest ones up to the most complex. We are able to control: temperature, humidity, light intensity and light quality, day and night length.
For optimum plant growth light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as a sole light source are used. This provides excellent spectral quality with high irradiance for plant physiology applications. In some chambers various light wavelengths are possible to combine: UV365,385, blue400,450, green525, amber590, red665 and far-red730. We also have chambers where various gas conditions (e.g. ethylene and CO2) can be adjusted.
Simulation of the following environmental stress conditions is possible to provide: cold stress (≥ +4°C), heat stress (≤ +40°C), high light, drought.
Support personnel provide cultural care, pest management, and maintenance of the entire core facility.
